She is a tourism and built environment academic with extensive experience in teaching, research, and academic administration at Malaysian higher education institutions. She holds a Master of Science in Tourism Planning and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, and is currently completing her PhD in Built Environment, focusing her research on tourist behaviour and the tourist gaze, particularly from the perspective of Muslim women. Her research primarily adopts qualitative methodologies, including in-depth interviews, thematic analysis, and systematic literature reviews (SLR). With over a decade of academic experience, she specializes in tourism planning, hospitality management, and qualitative research. She has published widely in indexed journals and books covering areas such as tourist behaviour, sustainable tourism, and cultural and coastal landscapes. She is actively involved in research grants and collaborative projects related to tourism development, community participation, and Islamic tourism, while contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision.

Dr. Maimunah Abdul Aziz is the Head of Tourism Section, University Kuala Lumpur Business School. She has graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Kuala Lumpur in PhD of Built Environment (Major in Tourism Planning and Development). Her core study area is Tourism Planning and Development, Tourism Policies, Destination and Products Development and Sustainable Tourism. Dr. Maimunah has been teaching 17 Tourism subjects for 7 years since 2016 at 4 public and private universities in Malaysia besides being invited as a guest Lecturer in Brunei, Indonesia and Uzbekistan. In her earlier career, Dr. Maimunah serves as Urban Planner at MEGARancang in Johor Bahru before working as Research Assistant (later Research Officer) at the International Islamic University Malaysia for 5 years. Besides, Dr. Maimunah is a professional certificate holder for Sustainable Tourism from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), Associate Professional Member at Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP), Professional member at Tourism Educators Association of Malaysia, a licensed City Tourist Guide (City Guide) in Malaysia; certified by Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MoTac), and also certified Mosque Tourist Guide (volunteer) for Mosque Tourism in Klang Valley under the Islamic Outreach ABIM.
